Kalk Bay
Kalk Bay · Western Cape
On Kalk Bay’s Main Road between the antique shops and the harbour — the club for the deep south, open through the weekend for the coastal crowd.
The room
The neighbourhood
Kalk Bay is the collective’s room on the False Bay coast — 124 Main Road, in the strip of antique shops, galleries and fish-and-chips counters between the mountain and the harbour. It serves the whole deep south: Muizenberg surfers after a morning at the Corner, St James and Lakeside locals on the school run, Fish Hoek and Simon’s Town members who’d rather not drive over the mountain for a collection.
The branch keeps weekend-friendly hours — open through Saturday and Sunday until 18:00 — because that is when the coast is busiest. Kalk Bay station is directly on Main Road a short walk away, which makes the Southern Line genuinely the nicest way to arrive; if you drive, parking along Main Road turns over steadily outside peak season. Surf, harbour swim, collection, coffee: that is the local routine.
